Week Five

Week 5 Inquiry: Write a short review

blog-pinterest

Out of all the social media networking sites out there, I would have to say Pinterest is probably my Favourite. My interests include photography, style, fitness and music and Pinterest covers all these things plus much more.

According to Pinterest (2016), ‘Pinterest is a visual bookmarking tool that helps you discover and save creative ideas’. Basically Pins are visual bookmarks.

“Each Pin you see on Pinterest links back to the site it came from, so you can learn more—like how to make it or where to buy it. Boards are where you save your Pins. You can make boards for anything and everything If you’re looking for something specific”(Pinterest 2016).

Pinterest can also be used as an essential marketing tool. With approximately 176 million worldwide users (Roof and Lynley 2015), there is a lot of opportunity for marketing and selling your brand. Just say If you were a professional photographer, you could share your images and attract a following. Pinterest could be used for any type of career a essentially a search engine where you collect visual ideas.

On a personal level, I use Pinterest to pin things that I see, whether that may be photographs, a style, a new haircut, a menu or a song. It’s so easy having everything you like together on essentially, an online pin board. I also have plenty of inspirational quotes to keep me going when I have left assignments till the last minute and feel like there isn’t enough coffee in the world.

Week 5 Practical: Establish a Storify Account

storify-main

The practical activity for week 5 is to set up a storify account.

I had a lot of technical difficulties setting this up, probably due to my own short term memory problems that can be attributed to a lack of coffee. I had forgotten passwords to every single account I have, which made it difficult to link Twitter, Facebook etc.

Here is my storify account.

I immediately found some interesting storify accounts to browse and follow. These include

https://storify.com/HRW – Human rights watch

https://storify.com/undp/work – I like the way this one is full of images/ Tweets

Week five Quiz

On first attempt of the weekly Quiz, Chapter 3, English for Journalists (Wynford Hicks)I made 3 errors. It seems I am falling victim to the 10 common grammar mistakes.

I am sure it is just me, but I find the book “English for Journalists” hard to understand. Sometimes I am unsure if they are showing the correct or incorrect example and I find this is confusing me somewhat.

I’ll keep trying!
